Since it was founded in 1950, the Institut für Kunststoffverarbeitung (IKV) has stood for research, innovation and technology transfer with a bearing on practice. The Institute is run by an Association of Sponsors, which currently has a membership of 300 companies from the plastics sector worldwide. The members of this Association of Sponsors benefit from their cooperation with the Institute by being able to exploit advantages from innovative developments at a particularly early stage.
Professor Dr.-Ing. E.h. Walter Michaeli is Director of the Institute and Managing Director of the Association of Sponsors. He is also Professor of Plastics Processing at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at Aachen University.

At present, the Institute has a staff of 140, including 80 scientists, who are engaged in research, development and training, with the aim of providing industry with solutions to the problems encountered in practice.
The IKV has proven its capabilities in a large number of projects.
Individual projects, and also those conducted in cooperation with industry as industrial research projects frequently lead to high-quality product ideas and developments.

In line with the transfer of technology, which constitutes one of the Institute's objectives, these ideas and developments are of benefit not only to big companies, but more especially to small and medium-sized ones too.
